Twenty years after the original Mean Girls (2004) was released, another version is being released in January 2024.
When I first watched the original version, I was a sophomore in high school. I couldn't relate to it much — fortunately my school was void of brutal cliques — but the "cool mom" scene stuck with me over the years.
Now, as more of my friends and relatives become mothers, I wanted to turn the hilarious scene with Regina's mother — played by Amy Poehler — into a comic.
I see Regina's mother as a dramatization of the coolness that doesn't have to be lost as you become a mom. It's also a good reminder that, as a mother, you don't have to try so hard to be cool. You already are cool, mommies. Being a mom is cool.
And remember, don't be afraid to ask your kids about the "cool jams" and stay interested in the going-ons of their life. However annoying to them at the time, it's worthwhile.
If this has you feeling all nostalgic for Mean Girls, you can watch the scene with Regina’s mom on YouTube.
God this movie left since a massive imprint on my life!
